LAKER, Bertie

1870 - 1889

Albert Tenterden Laker, was born at Ipswich on 2 September 1870, son of Abbott Thomas Laker, master mariner, and his wife Hellen née Tungatt, who married at Poplar, London in 1858. His father Abbot was master of the merchant vessel 'Mary E. Ray' when he died at sea on 30 April 1873. In 1871, Albert was a newly born, living at Tyler Street, Ipswich with his mother, 31 year old Hellen, born Colchester, Essex and his siblings, Lucy Nellie Harriet Elizabeth 12, Abbott William Edward Gebhard 10, both born at Colchester and John Dickson Charles 7, born Croydon and Alfred 5, born at Ipswich. Known as Bertie, he studied at Ipswich Art School and passed his drawing examinations in 1888. He was buried in Ipswich Cemetery on 12 April 1889.
