DAY, Harry Philip
Harry Philip Day was born at 24 Tower Terrace, St Mary at the Tower, Ipswich in 1850, eldest child of Henry Day, 'ecclesiastical & domestic decorator, and stained-glass windows of every description', and his wife Emma née Hayward, who married at Tower Church, Ipswich on 8 May 1849, Harry was a brother to Edward James Day. In 1861, Harry was an 11-year-old, living at Tower Church Yard, Old Butter Market, Ipswich with his parents, 36-year-old Henry and 35-year-old Emma, and his five siblings, Ambrose John 9, Edward James 7, Frank Vincent 5, Ernest Clement 3 and William Henry 1, all born in Ipswich. Harry was educated at Christ's Hospital Boarding School in Ipswich and studied at Ipswich School of Art. In 1864 he painted at illuminated address for presentation to the Rev. Francis Slater, curate at St Mary at the Tower Church, Ipswich. Harry married at Ipswich in 1871, Emma Elizabeth Reeve and in 1881, a 31-year-old art decorator, living at Rose Villa, 2 Lacey Street, Ipswich with his 29-year-old wife Emma and their four children, Hubert Hayward 8, William Henry 3, Harold Reeve 2 and Ethel Caroline 1, all born at Ipswich. In 1891, a 41-year-old painter, now living at Handford Road, Ipswich with his wife and five children and he then took his father's business and in 1900 admitted as a Freeman of Ipswich. In 1911, a 61-year-old writer, gilder & decorator, living at 47 Oxford Road, Ipswich with his 59-year-old wife Emma. Harry Philip Day died at Ipswich in 1921. His sons were in the printing business.
