HANCOCK, George Harris
George Harris Hancock was born at Penn, Buckinghamshire in 1865, son of Felix Hancock (c1829-1906), a master shoemaker, and his wife Elizabeth née Hearn, who married at High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire in 1855. George was educated at Haileybury, Great Amwell, Hertfordshire. In 1871, George was a 5-year-old living at Harewood Terrace, Hayes Precinct of Norwood, Uxbridge with his parents, 42-year-old Felix and 35-year-old Elizabeth, with siblings Sarah 13 and Alfred 11, both born at Norwood and in 1881 they were living at Feathersone Road, Norwood with the addition of two more children William 5 and Edmund 4. George married at Wandsworth, London in 1886, Florence Ada Le Masurier (18 September 1864-21 November 1947) and they had a daughter, Dora Florence, born in London in 1888 after which they moved to Ipswich. In 1891, a 25-year-old draper & hosier, living at 48-50 Princes Street, Ipswich with his 25-year-old wife and 3-year-old daughter but by 1901, a general draper & outfitter, at 43 Butter Market, Ipswich with two further children Grace Lilian 8 and Felix George 3, both born in Ipswich. Hancock exhibited at the London Salon in 1913 from 43 Upper Brook Street, Ipswich. George Harris Hancock died Ivy Lodge, Spring Hill, Capel St Mary, Ipswich on 28 April 1939, aged 74.
