SOUTHGATE, Ann Elizabeth
As Ann Elizabeth Brown, she was baptised at Kirk Bramwell, Doncaster, Yorkshire on 4 August 1836, daughter of James Andrew Brown (31 December 1807-27 April 1866), innkeeper, and his wife Ann née Trippett (born 5 October 1809) who married at Doncaster on 9 June 1835. Young Ann married at Doncaster on 19 June 1855, Abraham Southgate (1824-27 April 1894), a revenue inspector. In 1881, the 44-year-old wife of 56-year-old Abraham, living at 46 Loboro Road, Lambeth, London with four of their children, James Trippett 24, born in York, Jessie Anne 23, born in Scotland, Alice 19, born in Ireland and Annie Kate 16, born in Nottingham. In 1891, Ann was a 54-year-old, living at Rose Villa, Mervan Road, East Brixton, Lambeth, London with her 66-year-old husband Abraham, who was born at Wells, Norfolk, with their 32-year-old unmarried daughter Emma [Jessie?], who was born in Scotland. In 1892, Abraham and Ann were living at The Hall, Bramfield, near Halesworth, Suffolk and where Abraham died in 1894. In 1900, as Mrs Southgate, is noted in Kelly's Directory as still living at Bramfield Hall but in 1901, a 64-year-old widow, living with her 44-year-old son James Trippett Southgate, a solicitor, and his wife Eliza, who came from Halesworth, and their family at Penn Craig, Walton-on-Thames, Surrey. Ann Elizabeth Southgate died at Millside, Walberswick, Southwold, Suffolk on 7 December 1904.
