STRICKLAND, Ethel

1876 - 1962

Ethel Strickland, was born at Dearne House, Lindley-cum-Quarmby, Huddersfield, Yorkshire in 1876, daughter of William Poole Strickland (1834-1911), certified schoolmaster, and his wife Harriet Elizabeth (1837-1921). Ethel trained as a schoolteacher at Yolsted House Training College, 23 Banbury Road, Oxford. Her father died at Kirkley, Suffolk on 16 February 1911 when his 73 year old widow was living at 56 Pakefield Road, Kirkley, Lowestoft with two school-mistress daughters, 40 year old Constance and 33 year old Ethel. Ethel was an amateur artist and a painting 'Local Fisherman' is on display at the Southwold Sailors' Reading Room. She died at 48 Pakefield Road, Lowestoft on 11 April 1962, she was unmarried.
