STRICKLAND, Evelyn

1912 - 2005

As Evelyn Bickers Cook, she was born at Reydon, Southwold, Suffolk on 14 November 1912, youngest daughter of Arthur Robert Cook (27 January 1869-14 May 1955), a fisherman, and his wife Jemima née Bickers (18 April 1872-1946), who married at Blything, Suffolk in 1892 and in 1921 were living at Mount Pleasant, Reydon, Suffolk. Evelyn married at St Margaret's Church, Reydon, Suffolk on 26 December 1936, Stanley Victor Ashe Strickland (29 August 1916-2003), a lorry driver, only son of Edward Thomas Strickland from when Evelyn painted at Evelyn Strickland. In 1939 Evelyn Strickland was a married woman living at Shaftsbury House, Southwold, the home of her invalid father-in-law, whilst her husband was living at their home at 73 Chediston Street, Halesworth. Evelyn was an active artist in Southwold during the 1960s and 1970s and has a painting 'Local Fisherman' on display at the Southwold Sailors' Reading Room. In 2005 Evelyn was living at 2 Gorse Road, Southwold, Suffolk and Evelyn Bickers Strickland died at Great Yarmouth, Norfolk in 2005.
