HARE, Jabez 1820-1837
Jabez Hare, jun. was born at Ipswich on 8 February 1820, and baptised at Tacket Street Independent Church on 17 February 1820, son of Jabez Hare and his wife Elizabeth Leman Matthews (1796-20 November 1873), daughter of Thomas Matthews (died 1802) and his wife Sarah. An accomplished artist and, like his father, a member of the Ipswich Society of Professional & Amateur Artists from 1832 but he died on 28 February 1837 at the age of just 17 when a subscription was raised by the Ipswich Society of Artists and they placed a tablet in St Matthew's church, Ipswich which was designed by 'Mr Clarke, sculptor, now residing in Ipswich' and contains a tablet surrounded by artist's brushes and paints.
