LOVE, Frederick

1855 - 1932

Frederick Love was born at Lowestoft, Suffolk in 1855, son of William Percival Love (1816-1887), a mariner, and his wife Sophia Elizabeth née Grimwood (1820-1900), who married at Southwold, Suffolk in 1840. In 1861, Frederick was a 5-year-old, living at 23 Jacobs Street, Lowestoft with his 41-year-old mother Sophia, his father was at sea, and seven siblings, Emma Sophia [Peck] 18, Caroline Elizabeth [Jennings] 15, John Percival 12, James Henry 10, Hannah Rachel [Russell] 8, Sarah [Muirhead] 7 and Ellen [Triggs] 3, all born at Lowestoft. Frederick held various jobs, errand boy, mariner, general labourer, and he married at Lowestoft on 11 August 1887, Sarah Burgess (1864-1930). In 1901, a 45-year-old painter, living at 30 Seago Street, Lowestoft with his 36-year-old wife and their two daughters Ethel Maud [Hayward] 12 and Florence May 10, and a newly born son Frederick Henry, another son Ernest James born in 1897, was a patient in the local sanatorium. Ten years later, Frederick was a 55-year-old ship's painter and rigger, living at 100 Howard Street, Lowestoft with his 47-year-old wife Sarah, and their children Florence May [Alcock] 20, Ernest James 13 and Frederick Henry 10, all born at Lowestoft. Three of his pictures of fishing vessels are held by Lowestoft and East Suffolk Maritime Museum at Lowestoft. Frederick Love died at 394 London Road South, Lowestoft on 26 October 1932.
