HAYSOM, Shirley
Shirley A. Haysom was born in the Croydon district of Surrey in 1935, daughter of William James Haysom (1909-31 October 1962) and his wife Nellie Amelia née Hookins (6 May 1911-26 October 2004), who married in Surrey in 1930. Shirley was educated at Queen Elizabeth Girls Grammar School, Ashbourne, Derby and London School of Economics gaining a B.Sc (Econ) and studied for several years with the Open College of the Arts developing her own style, being increasingly pulled by the attraction of colour and the relationships that develop while painting. An artist of many years standing, her favourite subjects are village scenes set in Southern Europe, where she often travels and studies, also visiting Scotland and the far West of Cornwall. A former member of Suffolk Open Studios from her studio, which is a wooden log cabin, right at the end of the garden at Lawson's, Framlingham Road, Easton, Woodbridge, Suffolk.
