Jack Wilkinson Denny

Jack Wilkinson Denny was born at Biggleswade, Bedfordshire on 28 November 1911, son of John Burlong Denny (23 November 1884-10 May 1967), a tailor, and his wife Elizabeth née Wilkinson (17 February 1881-1958), who married at Biggleswade in 1910. John Burlong Denny and his family, including his wife and son Jack and daughter Noreen, came to Southwold in 1920, to enter the old established family business of tailor & outfitters at Market Place and, on the death of his cousin Frederick Denny in 1924, John Burlong Denny took over the business which was then in turn taken by his son Jack Wilkinson Denny. In 1939, Jack was an unmarried tailor cutter, living at 'The Crossways', Victoria Street, Southwold, Suffolk with his parents and his future wife Frances Elisabeth Farr (31 March 1910-2000), a film actress, and they married at Wandsworth, London in 1940. A painter of portraits of Southwold celebrities including his father, who was mayor of Southwold three times, in his mayoral robes. Jack Wilkinson Denny died at Southwold on 3 November 1997 when the business passed to their only child, daughter Lynn Knights née Denny.
