CUTLER, David John
David John Cutler was born at Stoneham, Devon on 2 June 1893, son of Thomas Cutler (1854-1942), a butler, and his wife Edith Harriet née Simmons (1860-1932), who married at Easthampstead, Berkshire in 1887. His father seems to have moved around, but in 1901 his 40-year-old mother and her family were living at 53 Glebe Road, Eaton, Norwich with children Thomas 12 and Archibald 11, both born at Hurley, Berkshire, David 7 and Edith 5, both born at Stoneham, Devon and 3-year-old Elsie, born at Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk. In 1911, his mother Edith was living at 46a Cambridge Street, Norwich when 17-year-old David was a land agent's clerk, and his elder brother Thomas, a motor mechanic and with the addition of a daughter 8-year-old Eva, born at Norwich. In 1921, he was a 19-year-old motor engineer working at the Rover Motor Company Ltd., at Coventry and boarding at Hawthorns, Harefield Road, Coventry. David married at Norwich in 1925, Dorothy Olga May Watkins (31 May 1897-6 February 1983) and about 1930 they came to live at Ipswich, David taking a position at Lock & Stagg, motor engineers, and in 1939, a works manager motor engineer, living at 184 Colchester Road, Ipswich with his wife and son David Cutler (born 23 April 1926). They later lived at 2a Wolsey Street, Ipswich in which road the Lock & Stagg garage was formerly situated. An amateur artist who painted two oils of the local garage of Lock & Stagg of Wolsey Street. David John Cutler died at 15 Clump Field, off Cambridge Drive, Ipswich on 26 April 1982.
