MacDONALD, Robin
Robin James Martin MacDonald was born at Barnet, London in 1941, youngest son of Alexander Berry MacDonald (4 February 1905-13 November 1978), a salesman, and his wife Kathleen Clara née Burgmaier (27 April 1909-12 December 1967), who married at Derby Registry Office on 17 July 1933. Robin has painted in watercolour and oil since childhood and after a career in medicine as a GP in Maldon, Essex until retirement in 2002, his painting remained a hobby. Living in Essex for most of his adult life, he married in the Chelmsford district in 1965, Audrey J. R. MacLaine (born 1939). Since his retirement he has devoted more time to his painting and sketching, painting in watercolour in a fast and loose style, capturing the odd corners and backwaters of East Anglia rather than the better-known landmarks. A former member of the East Anglian Group of Marine Artists and a former chairman of the Suffolk Art Society, Robin has exhibited throughout East Anglia also in France and at the Hong Kong Hilton. He lived at Hall Cottage, Ashen, near Clare in Suffolk (Ashen in actually in Essex), but now lives in France. He has produced DVD's including 'Confidence in Watercolour with Robin MacDonald'.
