CHALLIS, Colin

1939 - 2018

Colin F. Challis was born at 10 Enstone Road, Lowestoft, Suffolk in 1939, son of Frederick George Challis (23 September 1913-27 March 1993) and his wife Florence Gladys née Fisk (18 January 1914-1 September 2002), who married at Lowestoft in 1937. Colin married at Lowestoft in 1960, Sylvia M. Fulcher and they lived at 11 Sanctuary Close, Lowestoft. Colin was well-known as the artist illustrating the items produced for the Lowestoft Porcelain Co. of recent years, with his hand painted sparrow beak jugs especially sought after. Whilst still working on ceramics he also produced delightful paintings and pencil drawings, especially of wildlife subjects. His granddaughter is the artist Catherine Turner. Colin Challis died at Lowestoft in October 2018.
