MELLAMPHY, Robert Nicholas
Robert Nicholas Mellamphy was born at Cork City, Ireland in September 1927. He studied at Crawford College of Art and Design at Cork 1943-1946, before joining the Royal Air Force and travelling worldwide as an aircraft engineer, going on to continue this occupation with civil airlines. He married at Ipswich in 1954, Anthea E. Williams. Retaining his contact with the town of his birth as a member of the National Sculpture Factory, he was also a member of the Ipswich Art Club exhibiting from 675 Foxhall Road, Ipswich in 1979, 'Bealings Autumn' and in 1980 'Shades of Illusion'. He is also a sculptor and in 1990 designed the bronze 'Our Lady of Grace' now sited in Lady Lane, Ipswich which is based on an original now in a chapel at Nettuno, Italy. Robert Nicholas Mellamphy died at Woodbridge Lodge Residential Home in Suffolk on 5 July 2016.
