JAMES, Peggy

1915 - 2001

As Peggy Eyles, she was born at 21 West Street, Shelf, Yorkshire on 12 July 1915, daughter of William Meredith Eyles (1883-1940), a wire warehouseman, and his wife Gertrude née Boddy (1884-1930), who married at Kirby Wiske, Thirsk, Yorkshire on 17 August 1908 and in 1921 were living at 21 West Street, Shelf, Yorkshire, 38-year-old William and 37-year-old Gertrude with children Max Samson 11, Joyce 10 and Peggy 5. In 1939, Peggy was an unmarried schoolteacher, living at 10 Wilsden Road, Bingley, Yorkshire, the home of Allan Barnett, a quarry owner, and his wife Jean Barnett. Peggy married in Surrey in the 3rd quarter of 1940, Harold Norman James (10 April 1913-24 February 1995). As Peggy James, a Friend of the Ipswich Art Club and exhibited from 11 Samuel Road, Ipswich in 1979, 'Bruges Skyline' and two further pictures the following year and in 1981 'Danby, North Yorkshire'. Peggy James died at Ipswich on 27 January 2001.
