HENDRY, Enid
As Enid Rushton, she was born at Ryton, co. Durham on 7 August 1906, daughter of artist George Robert Rushton and his wife Edith née Ash (21 March 1872-19 February 1954), who married at Gateshead in 1900 and, shortly after her birth, her parents moved to Ipswich where her father had the position as Head of Ipswich School of Art 1906-1929. Enid was educated at Ipswich High School and later worked as an assistant to a firm of local architects. She married at Wantage, Berkshire in March 1929, Scottish born James Hendry (29 April 1901-26 June 1985), an analytical chemist, who had moved to Ipswich in 1924 to take up a graduate position with R & W Paul Ltd, animal feed manufacturers and maltsters later their general manager, and they had two sons, actor Ian Mackendrick Hendry (13 January 1931-24 December 1984) and Donald (born 15 August 1933) and they lived at 118 Constable Road, Ipswich. Enid was taught art by her father and was a Friend of the Ipswich Art Club and exhibited from 'Blueberry', Playford Road, Little Bealings, Ipswich in 1979 'Suffolk Scene'. The author of several books on child welfare, Enid Hendry died at Ipswich on 17 July 2002.
