Geoffrey Thomas Garland, was born at Colchester, Essex on 14 June 1917, son of Edward Robert Garland (1875-1933), and his wife Marguerite Ellen née Alborough (1879-1964), who married at Croydon, Surrey in 1913. His widowed mother seems to have emigrated to New Zealand in 1937 and in 1939, Geoffrey was and ironmongery salesman, boarding at 38 Grafton Road, Bedford. Geoffrey exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club from Quarry House, Norton, Bury St Edmund's in 1978 'Distant Barns, Suffolk'. He married twice, Margaret Purdue in 1951 and had children Teresa, Margaret and Peter, and secondly in 1965, Elizabeth Phillips. He died at Quarry House, Norton on 28 September 1984.
