EDWARDS, Katherine Susan

Katherine Susan Edwards was born at Ipswich on 15 October 1856, daughter of George Cordy Edwards (1819-6 June 1900), surgeon of Woodbridge and Ipswich, and his first wife Elizabeth Lorina née Branford (1820-28 September 1873), eldest daughter of Benjamin Branford, who married at Flordon, Norfolk on 29 August 1843, she was the sister to Emma Rebecca Edwards. In 1871, the Edwards’s were living at 13 Carr Street, Ipswich from where, as Kate Edwards, she exhibited at the Ipswich Fine Art Club in 1882, four watercolours 'Wallflower', 'Field Poppies', 'Nemophila' and 'Autumn Anenomes' and in 1883 as a member exhibited three small pictures 'Vine Leaves', 'View on the Nile' and 'The Pyramids'. Her father George, married secondly at Ipswich in 1882, Dora Zillah née Bacon (1853-1903). In 1891, Kate and her sister Rose Caroline kept a boarding house ‘Ocean View’ at Felixstowe, Suffolk but ten years later they had moved their boarding house to Brierholme, Orwell Road, Felixstowe and they were still there in 1911. In 1939, Katherine was living on private means, at 19 Alfred Street, Bath, Somerset where she died on 4 February 1942, aged 85, she was unmarried.
