ASHFORD, Herbert Frederick
Herbert Frederick Ashford was born at Fulham, London on 2 October 1903, only child of Frederick Herbert Ashford (1870-1940), a brewer's trouncer, and his wife Elizabeth Jane, née Disley (1872-29 July 1935), who married at St George's Hanover Square, London in 1899. In 1911, Herbert was a 7-year-old scholar living at 2 Hasker Street, Chelsea, with his parents, 40-year-old Frederick and 40-year-old Elizabeth, and they had six lodgers including a 40-year-old Francis Wilcock, decorative painter. In 1921 Herbert was a plumber's mate living at 120 Walton Street, Kensington with his parents and five lodgers. Herbert married at Kensington, London in 1933, Liley Isabel Threadgill (28 June 1899-3 January 1975). An associate member of the Ipswich Art Club 1962-1972 and exhibited from 19 Ransome Road, Ipswich in 1962, two oil paintings 'Dutch Scene' and 'Church in the Woods', in 1963 'Old Churchyard Gate' and 'Boat Building' in 1964 an oil 'A Norfolk Lane' and was a regular exhibitor until 1970 when he had two oils on show 'Venetian Scene' and 'St. Caterina Del Sasso'. Herbert Frederick Ashford was of 12 Walsingham Court, Winchester Way, Stoke Park, Ipswich when he died at Ipswich on 3 November 1984.
