TURNER, Ethel Rosa Neale

1891 - 1980

Ethel Rosa Neale Turner was born at Woodside, Croydon, Surrey on 30 September 1891, daughter of Ipswich born Frank Turner (1858-15 October 1937), tea broker, and his wife Ellen Elizabeth Churchman (1858-5 November 1935), daughter of Henry Charles Churchman, tobacconist of Ipswich, who married at Ipswich on 22 April 1882. Under her full name, Ethel first exhibited at the Holmesdale Fine Arts Club, Reigate, Surrey in the under 16's class in December 1906. In 1937, as Miss Ethel N. Turner, she exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club from Lynwood, Bath Road, Felixstowe, three works 'A Surrey Cottage' and 'Margaret Catchpole' and a watercolour 'Early Morning, Pollensa, Majorica'. In 1939, she was living at 23 Bath Road, Felixstowe and in 1941, as Miss Ethel R. N. Turner, again exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club 'Lucerne from Sonnenberg', in 1942 'An Oriental Model' and 'A Majorcan Road', in 1943 'A Wooden Bridge' and in 1944 'Eastwood Ho! Golf Course, Felixstowe' and later was an associate member of the Art Club 1960-1971 exhibiting from 43 Brook Lane, Felixstowe, Suffolk, oil paintings in 1960 'Somerset Gardener' and one in 1963 but does not seem to have exhibited again. Ethel Rosa Neale Turner was of Walhatch Country Hotel, Forest Row, Crawley, East Sussex where she died on 21 January 1980, she was unmarried.
