BISHOP, Thomas Frederick Henry
Thomas Frederick Henry Bishop was born at 110 Allan Road, Ipswich on 7 October 1885 and baptised at Holy Trinity Church, Ipswich on 27 December 1885, sixth of the seven children of Thomas Ellis Bishop (7 October 1844-22 October 1921), a blacksmith and engine fitter, and his wife Maria née Day (1846-1911), who married at Ipswich in 1867. In 1891, Thomas was a 5-year-old, living at 112 Alan Road, Ipswich with his parents, 46-year-old Thomas and 45-year-old Maria, with six siblings, Francis Charles 22, Lilian L. 16, Louisa M. 14, Violet A. 12, Daisy Maude 8 and Leonard Day 2. Thomas was educated at Ipswich Municipal Secondary School and at the Ipswich School of Art, successfully passing his examinations in 1909. He married at Ipswich in 1910, Blanche Mary Powley (1 June 1885-2 March 1982) whom he met at the Ipswich School of Art, and in 1911, a 25-year-old elementary school teacher, living at 22 Freehold Road, Ipswich with his 25-year-old wife Blanche, who was born at Wymondham, Norfolk. Thomas served in the Royal Navy during the First World War and in 1939, a schoolmaster living at 121 Sidegate Lane, Ipswich with his wife Blanche and children. An associate member of the Ipswich Art Club 1957-1972 and exhibited from 121 Sidegate Lane in 1957, two pictures, a pastel 'Sunshine and Mud' and a pen & ink work 'Over the Hill', in 1958 two watercolours 'The Boat Yard' and 'River View' and two in 1960 a pen & ink 'Sketch in Kersey' and a pastel 'Obsolete Stable'. A regular exhibitor at Ipswich with his last exhibits in 1965, two watercolours 'A Bit of Suffolk' and 'Earl Soham, Suffolk'. Thomas Frederick Henry Bishop died at 121 Sidegate Lane, Ipswich on 31 May 1973.
