BROWN, Madeline Lucretia
As Madeline Lucretia Turner, she was born at Chesterton, Cambridge on 16 July 1896, eldest of the three children of Hubert Edward Turner (7 December 1870-29 February 1940), an accountant, and his wife Edith Lucretia née Horspool (1871-8 March 1932), who married at Old Chesterton Church on 4 September 1894. In 1911, Madeline was a 14-year-old student, living at 89 De Freville Avenue, Chesterton with her parents, 40-year-old Hubert and 40-year-old Edith, with two siblings, Donald Hubert 11 and Mildred Edith 9. Her fiancée, Capt. Samuel Brammer Wilton, was killed in action on 14 March 1917, but she married at Chesterton in 1922, Harold Ethelwald Brown (19 June 1882-26 November 1960), future assistant master at Framlingham College, Suffolk and painted under the name of Mrs M. L. Brown. In 1939, they were living at 1 Pembroke Road, Framlingham, Suffolk. Madeline was an associate member of the Ipswich Art Club 1954-1967 and exhibited from Strawberry Hill, Pembroke Road, Framlingham, Suffolk in 1954 two oil paintings, 'Reflection' and 'Flowers' but does not seem to have exhibited again. She lived at Swan Meadow, Westerfield, Ipswich and was last seen alive on 16th and her body was found at her home on 17th February 1976.
