RUSSELL, Joan Eleanor

1917 - 1999

As Joan Eleanor Gertrude Hartley, she was born at Makisa Street, Walney, Barrow-in-Furness, Lancashire on 7 March 1917, but baptised at St Mary, Portsea, Hampshire on 5 August 1917, daughter of Frank Thomas Hartley (2 April 1887-21 March 1965), an Admiralty Overseer for Gun Mountings, and his wife Eleanor Eugenie née Moth (26 July 1887-20 February 1980), who married at Portsea on 7 August 1912 and in 1939 were living at 600 Foxhall Road, Ipswich. Joan married at Ipswich in 1942, Ronald Henry Russell (6 January 1917-5 January 1985) and she painted as Joan Russell. An associate member of the Ipswich Art Club 1942-1948 and exhibited in 1942 'Irises' and in 1944 two works 'A Bunch of Summer Flowers' and 'Dedham 1944'. Joan Eleanor Gertrude Russell died at New Forest, Hampshire on 28 October 1999.
