WRIGHT, Arthur Joseph Mattock
Arthur Joseph Mattock Wright was born at Hornsey, London on 9 June 1902, son of Joseph Francis Wright, a watch repairer & dealer, and his wife Emma Elizabeth née Mattock (1867-1913), who married at Islington, London in 1900. In 1911, Arthur was an 8-year-old, living at 46 Grovelands Road, Palmer's Green, Southgate, Middlesex with his parents, 34-year-old Joseph and 43-year-old Emma, and his two siblings, Frederick Samuel 8 and Doris Isabella 4. Arthur married at Edmonton, London in 1929, Hilda Constance Kendall (13 March 1903-7 May 1979) and in 1939 Arthur was a manufacturer's representative in the provision trade, living at 38 Wynchgate, Southgate, North London with his wife Hilda. An associate member of the Ipswich Art Club 1950-1960 and exhibited from 31 Princes Road, Felixstowe, Suffolk in 1950, three watercolours 'Clouds over Marlesford', 'The River Ouse at Overcote' and 'Flat Calm on the Orwell', in 1951 'Weeping Ash', 'Bent Hill, Felixstowe' and 'Rising Tide at Woodbridge', in 1952 three oils 'The Bridge, Nacton', 'Felixstowe Ferry' and 'Holmhill Farm, Felixstowe Ferry', his last showing was in 1953 when he exhibited three oil paintings 'Thawing Snow, Nacton Woods', 'Distant View of the River Deben' and 'Barge at Ipswich Dock' and another watercolour 'Great Street Farm, Trimley'. Arthur Joseph Mattock Wright was of 31 Princes Road, Felixstowe when he died at Foxhall Isolation Hospital on 4 December 1960, aged 58.
