MAY, Edward Ernest George
Edward Ernest George May, sometimes Ernest Edward May, was born at Devonport, Devon on 26 February 1908 and baptised at Devonport St Mary Church on 18 September 1908, son of Richard Henry May (1880-7 February 1927), a government dockyard worker, and his wife Elizabeth Rosina née Goddard (1885-1925), who married at Weymouth, Dorset in 1901. In 1911, Edward was a 3-year-old, living at 37 James Street, Devonport with his parents, 30-year-old Richard and 27-year-old Elizabeth, with three siblings, William Richard 9, born Weymouth, Margaret Victoria 5 and Frederick George 1, both born at Devonport and by 1921 they had eight children and were living at 53 Mount Street, Devonport. An associate member of the Ipswich Art Club 1947-1962 and exhibited from Reed Close, Hill Road, Reydon, Southwold, Suffolk in 1947, a watercolour 'Fair Wind' but does not exhibit in subsequent years. Edward Ernest George May died at 3 Grenadier Road, Ash Vale, Aldershot on 29 March 1983.
