COPELAND, Jack Ernest
Jack Ernest Copeland, sometimes Ernest Jack Copeland, was born at Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk on 25 July 1906, youngest child of Walter James Copeland (1868-18 September 1939), an auctioneer's clerk, and his wife Emily Annie née Sore (22 August 1868-13 February 1954), who married at Bury St Edmund's in 1891. In 1911, Jack was a 4-year-old, living at 11 Cornfield Road, Bury St Edmund's with his parents, 43-year-old Walter and 42-year-old Emily, and his four siblings, Christopher Frank 17, Marion Edith 16, Florence Emily 14 and Reginald Victor 9, all born at Bury St Edmund's. A member of the Ipswich Art Club 1938-1939 and exhibited from 18 Out Risbygate, Bury St Edmund's in 1937 an oil, 'Flower Piece' and in 1938 two works, an oil 'Flowers from the Garden' and a dry point 'The Church Farm at Snailwell, Cambridgeshire'. In 1939, Jack Ernest Copeland was 'incapacitated' living at 18 Out Risbygate, Bury St Edmund's with his widowed mother Emily, and where he died on 25 May 1946, aged 39, he was unmarried.
