RUSSELL, Helen Mary
As Helen Mary Sale, she was born at Yarmouth, Isle of Wight, Hampshire on 8 February 1883 and baptised on 11 March 1883, daughter of Major Matthew Townsend Sale (1841-30 August 1913), Royal Engineers, and his wife Mary Eleanor Ford (1859-11 May 1921), second daughter of the local vicar, Revd Charles Henry Ford, who married at Bishopton, Durham on 25 April 1882. Helen married at St Paul's Church, Moradabad, Bengal, India on 23 November 1919, Capt. Claude Anthony Russell (19 February 1886-20 December 1953), an army officer. In 1939 Helen was described as an artist, living at The Coppice, Gables Road, Fleet, Hampshire with her husband Claude, a retired army officer. A member of the Ipswich Art Club 1942-1951 and exhibited from The Coppice, Church Crookham, Fleet, Hampshire in 1942 'Portrait Study', 'The Clyde at Lanark', 'Corner in Stow-on-Wold' and 'Old Penzance', in 1943 a single oil 'W. Allcott, Esq. R.W.A.' and in 1946 three paintings 'Little Green Horses, 'The Cake Queue, Stow in the Water' and 'Canton Enamels'. Helen Mary Russell died at Edinburgh House, Devon Road, Salcombe, Devon on 27 February 1980.
