BARBER, Wilfred Charles
Wilfred Charles Barber was born at Ditchingham, Norfolk on 13 November 1908, son of Welcome Charles Frost Barber (30 April 1888-1956), a miller & baker, and his first wife Edith Maud née Hayward, who married at Hartismere, Suffolk in 1907, Edith Maud was buried at Ditchingham on 3 January 1908 when Welcome married secondly at Lowestoft, Suffolk in 1910 Ethel May Beckett (1886-1975). In 1911, Wilfred was a 2-year-old, living with his 22-year-old father Welcome and 24-year-old stepmother Ethel at Ditchingham Mill, on the Suffolk/Norfolk border at Bungay. Wilfred married at Wangford, Suffolk in 1933 Marjorie Ivy Page (14 June 1908-1994) and in 1939, a married police constable, living at the Police Station at Gipping, near Stowmarket, Suffolk with his wife Marjorie and father Welcome, a builder's labourer. An associate member of the Ipswich Art Club 1944-1951 and exhibited in 1944 from The Tye, Barking, near Ipswich, an oil painting 'Gold Coast' and in 1945 'Lieut. J. D. Norton' but does not seem to have exhibited again. Wilfred Charles Barber died at Newmarket, Suffolk in 1972.
