HOLBROOK, Sydney William
Sydney, sometimes Sidney, William Holbrook, was born at Newport, Monmouthshire on 28 February 1903, only child of John Francis Holbrook (1863-30 December 1937), a dairyman, and his second wife Augusta Mary née Cock (5 November 1871-1953), who married at Newport in 1902, his first wife was Susan Sophia née Osmond (1860-31 December 1901), who John had married in 1886. In 1911, Sydney was an 8-year-old, living at 69 Fairoak Avenue, Newport with his parents, 48-year-old George and 39-year-old Augusta, with his three stepsiblings Artimus Stanley 22, Chester John H. 20, and Ellen Beatrice 18, all born at Newport. Sydney married at Haverhill, Suffolk in 1928, Florence Evelyn Pannell (13 July 1898-16 August 1988) and in 1939 a market gardener, living at Stour View, Sturmer, Essex with his wife Florence and their son Peter John (born 26 January 1930) and Sydney's widowed mother Augusta. Sydney was a member of the Ipswich Art Club 1945-1949, exhibiting from Stour View, Sturmer in 1945, three pictures 'Self Portrait', 'The Rick' and 'The Red Blouse', in 1946 two pictures, 'Greta' and 'The Dinas (South Wales)' and in 1947 'A Portrait'. Sydney William Holbrook, a poultry farmer, died at The Pear Tree, Sturmer, Haverhill, Suffolk on 30 January 1977.
