DURRANT, Alice

1854 - 1881

Alice Elizabeth Durrant was born at Tower Street, Ipswich in 1854 and baptised at St Clement's Church, Ipswich on 25 June 1854, daughter of Jonathan Durrant, a tailor, and his wife Harriet née Johnson, who married at Ipswich in 1853. Alice studied at the Ipswich School of Art and in 1871 Alice was a 17-year-old scholar, living at Gildengate Street, St George Colegate, Norwich with her parents 49-year-old Jonathan, who was born at Ipswich and 47-year-old Harriet, who was born at Ongar, Essex, and siblings Elizabeth Harriet 15, Jane 11 and Alfred 5 who were all born in Ipswich. Dorothy exhibited at the Ipswich Fine Art and Industrial Exhibition and at the Ipswich Fine Art and Industrial Exhibition in 1868 and as Miss Durrant was a member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1875-1876 and exhibited a 'Still Life' in 1875. Alice Elizabeth Durrant died at Norwich in 1881, aged 27.
