SMITH, Sidney Herbert

Sidney Herbert Smith was born at William Street, Aston, Birmingham on 17 August 1867, son of Dr Joseph Smith, MRCS, and his wife Mary Ann née Smith. In 1911, Sidney was an unmarried 43-year-old artist, living at Northcote, The Avenue, Trimley St Martin, Felixstowe, Suffolk with his 79-year-old widowed mother Mary Ann Smith, who was born at Walsall, Staffordshire. Sidney exhibited at the London Salon in 1909 and was a member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1919-1922 and exhibited from Northcote, The Avenue, Trimley St Mary in 1920, 'Mountain, North Wales' and 'A Sussex Landscape'. In 1921 a 53-year-old 'artist in watercolours, black & white drawing, fully qualified by S[outh] K[ensington] Certificate', living at Northcote, The Avenue, Trimley St Mary, Suffolk with his 89-year-old mother Mary Ann Smith 'widow of a medical man' but by 1925 Sidney was of 2 Station Road, Trimley St Mary. Sidney Herbert Smith died at St Audrey's Hospital, Melton, Woodbridge, Suffolk on 6 September 1930.
