ROUSE, Miss
Miss Rouse, was a daughter of John William Rouse (26 July 1834-7 August 1915), a solicitor, and his second wife Mary Fison (1848-21 May 1918), second daughter of Joseph Fison of Stoke House, Ipswich who married at Stoke Church, Ipswich on 20 April 1881, his first wife was Mary Arnott, whom he married at Woodbridge, Suffolk in 1864, she died at Ipswich on 8 September 1868, aged 23, leaving one son. In 1901, the Rouse's were living at Wilford Lodge, [432] Woodbridge Road, Ipswich, 66-year-old John and 52-year-old Mary and children Arthur John 35 from his first wife and four daughters from his second, all born at Ipswich. As Miss Rouse, a member of Ipswich Art Society 1909-1916, exhibiting from Wilford Lodge, four paintings in 1910 'View on the Orwell', 'Martlesham', 'Old Gateway, Bordighera' and 'On the Riviera' and exhibited three pictures in 1912 'Valleney Valley', 'Among the Cotswolds' and 'Port of Soller, Manorca' and two in 1914 'June Roses' and 'A Suffolk Lane'. The initials of Miss Routh are not given and could be any of the four daughters but is probably Dorothy Mary Rouse, who studied at the Ipswich School of Art passing her examinations in drawing in 1899. Their aunt was Evelyn Augusta Rouse.
1. Dorothy Mary born 20 January 1883 died at 10 Reynolds Close, Golders Green, Hendon, Middlesex on 5 December 1939, aged 56, unmarried.
2. Janet Elizabeth born 19 February 1886 married in 1946 widower George Henry Ashplant Northcott (1877-1950) died at 'Meadowsweet', St Peters Road North, Hayling Island, Hampshire on 31 December 1976.
3. Margaret Josephine born 23 December 1888 living with her sister Dorothy at Hendon in 1939 and died at Garden House, 12-14 Hollow Lane, Hayling Island, Hampshire on 19 July 1992, unmarried.
4. Sybil Maud born 27 November 1890 died at Beggers Roost, Old Park Lane, Fishbourne, Chichester on 6 September 1984, unmarried.
