PARR, Emily Oliver
Emily Oliver Parr was born at Roxeth Lodge, Harrow, Middlesex on 15 May 1858, daughter of Gen. Thomas Chase Parr (21 August 1802-15 June 1883) and his wife Harriet Pott (29 February 1820-14 December 1897), second daughter of Charles Pott, who married at Bromley, Kent on 9 May 1846. Her brother was Admiral Alfred Arthur Chase Parr (1849-1914), the explorer, of Powis Lodge, Bickley, near Bromley. In 1861, Emily was a 2-year-old, living at Freelands, Bromley with her grandparents, Charles 74 and Anne Pott 72, with six siblings Charles 14, Alfred 11, Harriet 10, Willoughby 7, Agnes Mary 4 and Percivall 1 and they retained twelve indoor servants, their parents are visiting the rest of the Pott family in Northill, Bedfordshire. In 1871, a 12-year-old, living at Roxeth Lodge, Harrow with her 51-year-old mother Frances and three siblings. By 1881 her 78-year-old father had retired from the Indian Army and was living at Powis Lodge, The Common, Chislehurst, Kent with his wife and three of his unmarried children including Emily. A member of the Ipswich Art Club 1890-1891 and exhibited from Powis Lodge in 1890 'Cottages, Newbury, Berkshire'. Her father died at Powis Lodge on 15 June 1883 and by 1891 his widow and family, including Emily, had moved to Southborough Road, Bromley, Kent. Her mother Harriet died in 1897 when Emily and her elder sister Agnes, moved to Molescroft Hill, Chapelfield, Bromley where they were still living in 1921. In 1939 Emily was living on private means, at 5 Hill Brow, Bromley, Kent. Emily Oliver Parr was of Molescroft, Widmore, Bromley when she died at Glenthorne Nursing Home, Lower Camden, Chislehurst, Kent on 25 December 1950, aged 92, she was unmarried. Her mother Harriet was also an artist in watercolour and painted works of their home in and around their home at Bhuj, the capital of the former princely state of Kutch, located in the Western part of Gujarat, India.
