CHRISTIE, Kate Constance
Kate Constance Christie was born at Ipswich on 12 May 1865 and baptised at St Matthew's Church, Ipswich on 14 June 1865, eldest daughter of Frank Alexander Christie (11 December 1834-22 January 1907), a coal, salt and timber merchant, and his wife Catharine Henrietta Matthew (1833-2 March 1909), youngest daughter of James Matthew of Hempnell Hall, Cotton, Suffolk, who married at St Matthew's Church, Ipswich on 14 July 1864. Kate studied at the Ipswich School of Science and Art, winning a prize and certificate for model drawing in the government examinations in April and May 1885. As Miss Christie, a member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club from 6 Lower Brook Street in 1890 but does not seem to have exhibited. On 5 April 1891, the family were living at 6 Lower Brook Street, Ipswich, Frank a 59-year-old coal factor with his 60-year-old wife Catharine and their six children, Kate, Frank Herbert (1866-1896), Leonard Alexander (1868-1917), Amy Margaret (born 1870), Mary Emma (born 1871) and Lillian May (born 1876), all born at Ipswich. Kate married at St Stephen's Church, Ipswich on 12 August 1891, William John Whitmore (13 March 1861-6 October 1938), a mechanical engineer of Wickham Market, Suffolk. In 1939, Kate was a widow, living at 10 Massey Road, Lincoln with her unmarried daughter Joyce Frances (8 April 1898-21 September 1987). Kate Constance Whitmore died at 10 Massey Road, Lincoln on 20 March 1955, and buried in Eastgate Cemetery, Lincoln.
