FRANCIS, Georgiana Mary
Georgiana Mary Francis was born at Colchester, Essex on 13 July 1865, second daughter of Abraham Kershaw Francis (5 September 1829-19 February 1902), a corn merchant, who was born at Ipswich, and his wife Margaret Anne née George (30 July 1828-31 August 1916), who married in Liverpool in 1854. In 1891, Georgiana was a 25-year-old, living at Crouch House, Crouch Street, Colchester with her parents, 61-year-old Abraham and 62-year-old Margaret, and her two siblings, 32-year-old Margaret Elizabeth (1859-1926), who died unmarried, and 23-year-old James. A member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1889-1890 from Crouch Street but does not seem to have exhibited. She married at Colchester in 1896, Maurice Mayhew Bear (2 August 1871-22 August 1958), a 24-year-old mechanical engineer with Davey, Paxman of Colchester. In 1900, her husband accepted a position as general manager with Holden & Brooke of Manchester and in 1901 they were living at Canal Road, Congleton, Cheshire. In 1910, Maurice opened a branch of the company in Calcutta and on 15 October 1910, Georgiana and her husband set sail for Bombay, India on the Kaisar I Hind. They returned to England in 1922 and after retirement, Maurice and his wife Georgiana were supporters of a Social Club in London. In 1939, they were living at Bishearne Gardens, Liss, Hampshire. Georgiana Mary Bear died at Tout Hill House, Wincanton, Somerset on 6 October 1953, aged 88.
