CHARLESWORTH, Mary Muriel
Mary Muriel Charlesworth was born at Stanley House, Park Hill Road, Croydon, Middlesex in late 1867, third child of William Hardy Charlesworth (1836-20 May 1925), a member of the stock exchange, and his wife Laura Ann née Aubert (1844-26 October 1887), who married at Hackney, London in 1863. In 1871, Mary was a 3-year-old, living at Park Hill Road with her parents, 35-year-old William and 27-year-old Laura and four siblings, Henry Edmondson 7, Bertha 6, Albert Aubert 1 and newly born Aubert P. and they retained four indoor servants but by 1881 they had moved to Bromley, Kent with the addition of four more children, Bernard 7, Noel Stephen 5, Edwin 3 and Rhoda 1. Mary's mother died at Hastings, Sussex in 1887, aged 42, and her father remarried in 1889, Jane Susan Lloyd (1954-1930). Mary was a member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1889-1891 and exhibited two pictures from East Hill, Bickley, Kent in 1889, 'An Italian Courtyard' and 'Farmhouse at Wool, Dorsetshire'. In 1891 the family moved to Tandridge Hall, Tandridge, Surrey when Mary was aged 23 and her stepmother Jane 37. She was still at Tandridge in 1901 with an 8-year-old stepsister, Florence. Mary Muriel Charlesworth was of 3 Lansdowne Place, Plymouth when she died at North Friary Nursing Home, Freedom Street, Plymouth, Devon on 3 March 1919, aged 51, she was unmarried.
