TAYLOR, Ellen Agnes
Ellen Agnes Taylor was born at Manningtree, Essex on 11 January 1856, daughter of Charles Taylor (3 June 1826-9 March 1907), a bank manager at Alexander's Bank at Manningtree, and his wife Ellen née Deane (1823-1912) of East Hill, Colchester, who married at St James's Church, Colchester on 28 January 1852. In 1861, Ellen was a 4-year-old, living at The Bank, High Street, Manningtree with her parents, 34-year-old Charles and 38-year-old Ellen with three siblings, Charles Walter 8, Mary 4 and Anna Elizabeth 1, all born at Manningtree, Charles and Ellen had two further children, and were still living at the Bank in 1871. By 1881 they had moved to Mistley House, High Street, Mistley which adjoins Manningtree and were still there in 1891 with daughter, 35-year-old Ellen. Ellen studied at the Ipswich School of Science and Art receiving an excellent pass certificate and a prize in 1884. A member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1888-1893 but exhibiting from 1883 from Mistley Abbey [House] two table lots 'Primroses and Wood Anemones' and a pair with 'Primroses' also exhibiting in 1888 from Mistley House two paintings, 'River Sketch, Mistley' and 'Mistley'. Ellen and her widowed mother were still living at Mistley House in 1911. Ellen Agnes Taylor was of North House, The Walls, Manningtree when she died at 4 St James's Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent on 10 July 1933, aged 77, she was unmarried.
