PILLING, Keith
Keith Pilling was born at Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire on 1 September 1930, son of George Pilling (18 June 1891-1975), a railway platelayer, and his wife Alice Crossley née Lee (20 March 1894-1979), who married at Ashton in 1927 and in 1939 were living at 2 Springback Cottage, Stalybridge, Cheshire where Keith went to school. Keith was an Ipswich artist, and his first book was a collection of pen and ink sketches of Ipswich (1982) to be followed by one on Bury St Edmund's (1984), all the sketches were done on site. His works in 'Suffolk Landscape Drawing' are reproductions of drawings and paintings of the artist's home county and a complete change from the usual type of book on Suffolk. He also illustrated 'Norfolk Places' by Jane Hales (1975), 'Farm Crops' by Graham Boatfield (1986) and others. His originals are in many private and corporate collections. A councillor on Barham, parish council near Ipswich where he designed the village sign. He married an Ipswich girl in 1964, Inez G. M. Rich and Keith Pilling died at 10 Thornhill Road, Barham, Ipswich on 10 January 1993.
