GUNNETT, Peter
Peter James Eveleigh Gunnett was born at Lewisham, London on 7 February 1935, son of Ernest James Gunnett (27 June 1911-18/19 March 1970), a wholesale meat salesman, and his wife Enid Kathleen Lilian née Eveleigh (17 February 1912-29 January 1992), who married at Lewisham in 1933 and in 1939 were living at 9 Grange Road, Orpington, Kent. Peter married at Hertford on 26 September 1958, Edna Isabel Percival (born 1937) and they moved to Drinkstone, near Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk. An artist whose favourite mediums were oils and pen and ink, and he painted marine pictures, many of which were in sepia tones, spending his holidays on the Norfolk Broads where he sketched, painted, and took many photos as research for his pictures. He also travelled to Greenland as a ship's artist, which proved inspirational with the resulting paintings and photographs. He had few exhibitions, but Denny Bros of Bury St Edmund's regularly held shows of his paintings. Peter James Eveleigh Gunnett died at Drinkstone on 9 March 2002 and was buried in the local All Saints' Church beside several members of the family. His wife was still living at Drinkstone in 2023, being involved in local affairs, and they had issue of two daughters Sarah and Jenny.
