VOWELL, Florence May
Florence May Vowell was born at Westminster, London on 16 May 1875, daughter of Thomas Frederick Vowell (1835-1895), a warehouseman, and his wife Elizabeth née Weskett, who married at Chelsea, London in 1857. In 1881, 9-year-old Florence was living at 11 Montpelier Place, Westminster, London with her parents, 44-year-old Thomas and 43-year-old Elizabeth and siblings Elizabeth Charlotte 23 and Albert Henry 12. Her father died in 1895 and in 1901, her 65-year-old mother was a housekeeper at Hambledon House, Surbiton, Surrey with 25-year-old Florence as assistant housekeeper, to 47-year-old Stuart Fulcher, senior clerk to H.M. Office of Works. In 1911, Florence was a 36-year-old artist in oil & watercolour, living at 36 Warwick Gardens, Earls Court, London with her 75-year-old widowed mother Elizabeth, a caretaker, and her 49-year-old married brother, Herbert Joseph Vowell (1862-1937), a picture frame maker. In 1939, an 'artist', living at Yew Tree Farm, Henton, Wells, Somerset and was a member of the Ipswich Art Club 1942-1943 and exhibited in 1943, two works 'Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire' and 'Snow Scene, Oxfordshire'. Florence May Vowell died in the Norwich district, Norfolk in 1956, aged 80, she was unmarried.
