COTTINGHAM, Eliza Anne
As Eliza Anne Johnson, she was born in London on 18 April 1834, and baptised at St Leonard’s, Shoreditch on 18 April 1836, daughter of James Johnson and his wife Sophia. She married at Holmwood Church, Surrey on 15 October 1862, Dublin born, Edward Roden Cottingham (1834-17 August 1901), a major in the Royal Artillery. In 1881, they were living at Derby Lodge, 222 Woodbridge Road, Ipswich with four children, 17-year-old Rosa Minnie, born Chatham, Kent, 16-year-old Florence, born Southend, Essex, 10 year old Rosetta Jane, born Plymouth, Devon and 9 year old Henry Langris, born Sheffield, and they kept two indoor servants, they had a further son named after his father, Edward Roden Cottingham (6 September 1866-28 June 1930) who was also a Lieut. Col. in the army. In 1882, Eliza exhibited from Woodbridge Road, Ipswich at the Ipswich Fine Art Club, two watercolours 'Bonchurch, Isle of Wight' and 'Study of Trees, Keston, Kent' but by 1891 the family had moved to Bassett Mount, North Stoneham, Hampshire where Edward was a ‘retired colonel’. Eliza Ann Cottingham died in 1900 when husband Edward moved to Hermits Hill, Burghfield, Berkshire and where he died on 17 August 1901.
