TAYLOR, Reynell
Reynell Hamilton Baylay Taylor was born at Dhamsala, Bengal, India on 24 November 1858, son of General Reynell George Taylor (25 January 1822–28 February 1886) and his wife Anne Holdsworth (1837-28 February 1895), daughter of Arthur Holdsworth of Widdicombe, Devon, who married at Stokenham, Devon on 14 December 1854. Reynell married at Wellington, Shropshire in 1891, Gertrude Isabel Houghton (1 August 1869-16 August 1947) and in 1891, a 32-year-old army captain, living at 1 Blackheath Road, Charlton next Woolwich, London with his 21-year-old wife Gertrude and his 52-year-old widowed mother Anne. As Capt Reynell Taylor, a member of the Ipswich Art Club in 1894 and exhibited from Borderers Ordnance House, Harwich, Essex, two watercolours 'View on a Shropshire Canal' and 'British Camp at Pezwan, Afghanistan'. By 1901 he had moved to 9 Malvern Road, Portsmouth and in 1911, a 52-year-old army colonel, living at the Officer's Quarter, Woolwich Arsenal, London with his 41-year-old wife and 19-year-old son, Lieut Richard Reynell Taylor. In 1939, Brigadier-Gen. Reynell Hamilton Baylay Taylor was living at Rosebank, 5 West Street, Ryde, Isle of Wight with his wife Gertrude, and where he died on 23 March 1942, aged 83.
