STIMPSON, Ellen Beatrice
As Ellen Beatrice Smith, she was born at Bucklesham, Felixstowe, Suffolk on 26 August 1911, daughter of Harry Smith, a labourer, and his wife Alice née Wilder. In 1921 Harry was a 52 year old 'flour mill labourer' and a widower living at 33 Surbiton Road, Ipswich with his children Mabel Florence 21, Sidney 13 and Ellen Beatrice 9. Ellen married at Trimley in 1939, Frederick John Stimpson and they set up home at 50 Wallace Road, Ipswich. Ellen Stimpston was an exhibitor at the Ipswich Art Club from Sprites Hall Lane, Walton cum Felixstowe, Suffolk of watercolours, in 1951 'Nasturtiums', in 1954 'Ash Abbey Farm', in 1958 'A Glimpse of the Deben' and, as a member began exhibiting oils, in 1960 'Home Grown', in 1961 'Rest Awhile', in 1964 'The Deben at Ufford', in 1966 'Autumn Glow', in 1967 'Deben at Ebb Tide', in 1968 'Trimley Marshes' with her last exhibit in 1971 'The Orwell near Pin Mill'. Ellen Beatrice Stimpson died at Trimley on 20 May 2000 and buried beside her husband in Trimley St Mary churchyard.
