PAUL, Robert Harold
Robert Harold Paul was born at Ipswich on 12 June 1872, eldest son and second child of Robert Stocker Paul (1844-11 February 1909), a maltster & merchant, and his wife Emily née Hewitt (1845-14 July 1924), who married at Stowmarket, Suffolk on 17 August 1870. In 1881, young Robert was a 9-year-old, living at 'The Boltons', Henley Road, Ipswich with his parents, 37-year-old Robert and 35-year-old Emily and four siblings, Mabel 9, William 7, Russell 5 and James 2, and they retained four indoor servants. Robert married at Tacket Street Congregational Chapel, Ipswich on 22 September 1904, Hilda Sherington Pretty (15 August 1875-22 August 1962), daughter of William Pretty (1 January 1842-12 February 1916) of Goldrood, Ipswich, Hilda was a sister of Frank Pretty. In 1911, Robert was a 38-year-old corn merchant, living at Clare Lodge, 75 Henley Road, Ipswich with his 35-year-old wife Hilda, who was born at Stowmarket. A Life Member at the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1913-1949 but did not exhibit. In 1939, a corn merchant, living at The Goldrood, Belstead Road, Ipswich with his wife Hilda and where Robert Harold Paul died on 6 March 1950, aged 77.
