OXBORROW, Ernest Ralph
Ernest Ralph Oxborrow was born at Ipswich on 15 December 1872, son of Edmund Oxborrow (1832-27 January 1887), a wine merchant later a miller, and his wife Elizabeth Lucas (1832-10 April 1889), youngest daughter of wealthy Obadiah Barwick Lucas of 4 Victoria Terrace, Woodbridge Road, Ipswich, who married at St Stephen's Church, Ipswich on 3 November 1853. In 1881, Ernest was an 8-year-old, living at The Plough, St Peter's Street, Ipswich with his parents, 48-year-old Edmund and 49-year-old Elizabeth, and five of his at least ten siblings, George Lucas 22, Ada Mary 20, Mary Ann L. 16, Edmund Woods 10 and Charles Robert 6, all were born in Ipswich. Ernest married at St Patrick's Church, Brighton, Sussex on 14 September 1898, Mabel Florence Tickle (16 September 1874-21 May 1958) and in 1901, a 28-year-old auctioneer and estate agent, living at 'Everest', 28 Warrington Road, Ipswich with his 26 year old wife Mabel and 1 year old son Lionel Ernest, they had a daughter Joan born on 28 December 1910 and by 1921 they had moved to 17 Warrington Road, Ipswich when son Lionel was a student at his estate agency in Princes Street, Ipswich. An honorary member of the Ipswich Art Club 1936-1943 but does not seem to have been an exhibitor. A partner, with his son Lionel, in the firm of Oxborrow, Son & Morgan, auctioneers & estate agents in Ipswich and in 1939, an auctioneer, living at 87 Valley Road, Ipswich with his wife Mabel and widowed daughter Joan Harrison and others. Ernest Ralph Oxborrow was of 87 Valley Road, Ipswich when he died at Fonnereau Road Nursing Home, Ipswich on 8 April 1944.
