MURRAY, Dr William George

1856 - 1919

William George Murray was born at Edinburgh, Scotland on 16 June 1856, son of Alexander Murray and his wife Isabella Mathierson née Banks. William was of Ossett, Wakefield, Yorkshire, formerly of 18 Walton Road, Liverpool when he married at 1 Billbank Terrace, Edinburgh on 6 December 1881, Christina Aikman, youngest daughter of James Aikman of the firm of James Aikman & Son, leather merchants of Niddry Street, Edinburgh. They came to England and in 1891 William was living at Bela House, Clacton-on-Sea, Essex with his 32-year-old wife Christina and their 7-year-old daughter Helen, who was born at Ossett, Yorkshire, they were still living in Clacton in 1901. By 1911, William had moved to Granville Lodge, Milton Street, Ipswich, a 54-year-old, Bachelor of Medicine and Master of Surgery, living with his 52-year-old wife Christina, who was born in Edinburgh, and they kept two servants. A member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1910-1913 and exhibited from Granite Lodge, St John's, Ipswich in 1913, two watercolours 'A Storm over the Veldt, South Africa' and 'Down Hartz River, South Africa' after which he departed from Ipswich. William George Murray died at Christchurch, Hampshire in 1919.
