MOIR, Minnie Gordon

1877 - 1964

Minnie Gordon Moir was born at Hitchin, Hertfordshire on 19 March 1877, daughter of Lewis Moir (28 February 1844-11 February 1912), of Stonehaven, Scotland, a commercial traveller in clothing, and his wife Sarah née Knowles (1841-1910), stepdaughter of Edward Coppinger, who married at Beckenham, Kent on 8 October 1867. In 1881, Lewis Moir of London, came to Ipswich and took over the Ipswich firm of Alston & Co., trading as Alston & Moir at 8 Butter Market and 11-13 Thoroughfare as tailors, outfitters, and clothiers. In 1901, Minnie was a 25-year-old, living at 42 Warrington Road, Ipswich with her parents, 57-year-old Lewis and 59-year-old Sarah and her 21-year-old brother James Reid Moir (1879-1944), the archaeologist. A member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1895-1896. Her mother died in 1910, and Minnie married at Ipswich in 1913, 33-year-old Herbert Wilkey Fry (11 November 1879-31 March 1948), a corn merchant's assistant, and they lived at 29 Constitution Hill, Ipswich. In 1939 they were living at 35 Constitution Hill, Ipswich and Minnie Gordon Fry was of 35 Constitution Hill, Ipswich when she died at Wear Home, Witnesham, Ipswich on 3 October 1964, aged 89.
