HUNNYBUN, Mary Heath
Mary Heath Hunnybun was born at Nayland, Suffolk on 3 September 1869, youngest of the four daughters of Revd James Hunnybun (7 October 1832-17 August 1899), vicar of Nayland 1867-1879, and his wife Elizabeth Sarah Christie née Claydon (1833-1896), who married at Trinity Church, Cambridge on 1 May 1861. In 1879 her father took the living of the rectory of Holton St Mary, Suffolk and in 1891, Mary was a 21-year-old, living at the Rectory House, The Street, Holton St Mary with her parents, 58-year-old James and 57-year-old Elizabeth, with two sibling sisters, Florence Violet 26 and Elizabeth Ethel Rose 24, both born at Nayland. A painter in oil of landscapes and a member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1893-1894 but had exhibited in 1890 and two works in 1892 'Haybarn Cottage, East Bergholt' and 'Flatford'. Her mother died at Holton in 1896, and they left Holton and returned to her father's hometown of Cambridge where he died on 17 August but was buried back at Holton on 21 August 1899. In 1939, Mary was living at Roslin Hall Hotel, Manor Road, Bournemouth when she gave the year of her birth as 1895. Mary Heath Hunnybun was of Woodcroft Towers, Gervis Road East, Bournemouth when she died at 27 Old Christchurch Road, Bournemouth on 18 September 1942, aged 73, she was unmarried.
