HOOLE, Barbara Mary
Barbara Mary Hoole was born at Carmarthen, Wales on 30 January 1909 and baptised at St David's, Carmarthen on 8 July 1909, youngest of the two children of Samuel Hoole (31 January 1871-8 January 1961), principal of a training college, and his wife Caroline Louisa née Griffiths (16 April 1870-1959), who married at Plymouth, Devon in 1902. In 1911, Barbara was a 2-year-old, living at 'Tankervill', 12 Cliffe Park, Sunderland with her parents, 40-year-old Samuel and 39-year-old Caroline, and her elder sister, 7-year-old Joan and in 1939 they were living at London Road, Oxford. Barbara studied at Sheffield College of Art passing her drawing examinations with distinction in May 1930. A member of the Ipswich Art Club 1946-1962 and exhibited from various Ipswich locations, in 1946 from 52 Tuddenham Road, two oil paintings 'The Riven Tree' and 'Shadows on the Downs', in 1947 from 8 Westerfield Road, an oil 'Pewter', in 1948 an oil 'Coverack Harbour', in 1949 a watercolour 'Cornish Harbour', in 1950 a watercolour 'Norwegian Fjord', in 1951 an oil 'Spanish Street' and in 1956 from 43 Tuddenham Road, Ipswich an oil 'Terrace by the Sea' which seems to have been her last. Barbara Mary Hoole died at Ipswich on 17 November 2003, she was unmarried.
