HAWARD, Joan Elsie

1911 - 1995

Joan Elsie Haward was born at Ipswich on 9 September 1911, daughter of Arthur William Haward (1882-22 March 1942), an insurance clerk, and his wife Elsie Emily Haward, née Birkin, Joan was a sister to architect Birkin Haward. A member of the Ipswich Art Club from 1943 and exhibited from Greenfields, London Road, Black Notley, Essex in 1942, 'White Notley' and 'Canadian Pines, Faulkbourne', in 1943 'Near Harlech, North Wales' and 'An Essex Lane', in 1944 'Near Gt Leighs, Essex', in 1946 two watercolours 'Stacks at Dagnett's Farm' and 'River Colne, Halstead', in 1947 'White Notley Church' and the following year 'Black Notley Church'. In 1949 she had an oil 'Harbour, Mevagissey' and two watercolours 'Little Square, Braintree' and 'Anenomes' on show and in 1950 'Early Spring', 'A Backwary, Framlingham' and 'Winston, Suffolk'. She later exhibited from 122 Norwich Road, Ipswich and in 1977, from 'Greenfields', Levington, near Ipswich, she had on show 'Salhouse from the Marshes' and exhibited one picture the following year. Joan Elsie Haward died at Levington on 29 August 1995 and buried in Levington churchyard, she was unmarried.
