GARNETT, Donald Goddard
Donald Robert Garnett was born at Bowness-on-Windermere, Westmorland on 2 September 1897 and baptised on 30 October 1898, son of Frank Walls Garnett (1867-22 August 1922), a veterinary surgeon, and his wife Susannah Goddard (20 September 1853-8 February 1953), daughter of the late James Goddard of Hampstead, who married at the Parish Church, Hampstead, London on 4 May 1895. In 1911, Donald was a 13-year-old, living at Daleygarth, Windermere with his parents, 44-year-old Frank and 57-year-old Susannah and a sibling sister, 14-year-old Marjory. Registered as a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) and graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine (MB). He married in London on 28 December 1923, Florrie Clare Constance Pierce (20 November 1902-31 January 1965), and they left for East Africa on 29 January 1924 when he served in the Colonial Medical Service in Uganda 1924-1927 and their son Conrad Peter Almeric Garnett was born at Kampala on 22 November 1924. In 1939, a medical practitioner living at 117 High Street, Leiston-cum-Sizewell, Suffolk with his wife. His wife died at Halstead, Essex in 1965 and he married secondly in 1966, Elizabeth Mary Wilding (1 October 1903-22 February 1988). He lived at Fairfield House, Leiston, Suffolk and was a member of the Ipswich Art Club 1942-1951 and exhibited in 1941, two works 'Lower Abbey Marshes' and 'Eastbridge Marshes', in 1942 two works 'Spring Visitors to Eastbridge' and 'Teal Drakes and Black Clouds', in 1952 an oil, 'The Hall of Giant's, Roman Ruins, Sirmione Lago-de-Garda', in 1955 an oil, 'Old Church, Talmont Charente Maritime, France', in 1957 two oils, 'L'Ancienne Abbaye De Montmajour Arles, France' and 'Clouds Lifting, Blakeney, Norfolk', in 1958 'Camp De Mar, Majorca' and in 1959 'Bric-a-Brac'. From 1962 he exhibited from Hillgarth, Coggeshall Road, Earls Colne, Essex two oils, 'Still Life with Onions' and 'Interior' and his last was in 1972 'Ness Glen, Ayrshire'. Donald Robert Garnett died at Lydfords Nursing Home, East Hoathly, Uckfield, Sussex on 7 August 1988.
